Monster in Me
When I looked in the mirror I only could stare
Every inch of my body was covered in hair
I was purple and blue and my nose had turned red
My legs grew so long they fell out of bed
My fingernails were as big as my hands
My hands were as big as my feet
My feet were so wide that I only could stand
Cause they got in the way of the legs of the seat
I had wished to grow big as I blew out my cake
But not big like a monster for goodness’s sake
I’m way too afraid, I can’t tell my mother
But I think I know just how I will show my brother

About the poem Monster in Me:
My kids are obsessed with monsters, and even though I told them all about the special monster repellent that I sprinkled around the house they still get scared. You mix that with a healthy need to scare one’s siblings and you’ve got a poem about… oh no… becoming a monster and using it to ones advantage.
