Popcorn on the Floor
Pieces of popcorn on the floor
They’re there, I can see ’em
I really want to eat ‘em
Can it really be that bad?
Mom says yes, but how ‘bout Dad

About the poem Popcorn on the Floor:
Every once and a while we’ll be driving along, I’ll look in the rear view mirror (you know the one with the suction cup that you put below the real rear view mirror to keep track of the kids) and I’ll see one of the twins eating a piece of candy, or a chip, or really any old piece of food item they hid in their car seat on the last trip. Now in theory (this is what I would have said I would do before I was a parent), I should take the piece of food and throw it away, but after awhile and a few kids you become more lax. You ask questions like:
- What is it that they are eating?
- Is it bad for them?
- How old can it be?
And as long as none of those questions yield an alarming answer, well, it’s not worth the crying. The poem Popcorn on the Floor looks to show the origin of the 5 second rule (which of course is not a real rule). You know with the first kid, a Binky hits the floor and you start to boil the water, with the second and third… it may not even get washed. Oh how things change.
